Players who are not yet at this (β€œAAA”) level will struggle to keep up with the group and will not benefit from the program. If that describes your player, we highly recommend our Mite Skills & Scrimmage Program , Spring/Summer Skill Sessions (pick and choose dates, times, and topics), Mite Battling & Puck Protection Program , and/or our 3 v 3 Cross-Ice Development League to focus on strengthening their skill foundation.

  •
⚠️ 2017 Birth Years: 2017 birth year players looking at the Squirt IQ program should be “AAA” level.

Why? The Hockey IQ Program assumes that all players attending already possess strong skating and skill foundations. Players who are not yet at this (β€œAAA”) level will struggle to keep up with the group and will not benefit from this program. If that describes your player, we highly recommend our Mite Skills & Scrimmage Program or our Spring/Summer Skill Sessions (pick and choose dates, times, and topics) to focus on strengthening their skill foundation.

⚠️ 2015 Birth Years: 2015 birth year players eligible for either squirt (2015 – 2016 AAA/AA, 2017 AAA) or pewee (2014 – 2015 AAA/AA) age groups. If your player is an average/lower level 2015 AA player we suggest signing up for the Squirt IQ age group. If your player is a higher end 2015 player we suggest the Pewee age group.

Why? Players get the most out of the Hockey IQ Program when they are at a top-to-average skill level compared to the rest of the group. When a player’s skills are behind the group, it becomes very difficult for them to apply the IQ concepts being taught, as they are mainly focused on just trying to keep up. That’s why, new this spring, we’re allowing more flexible age sign-ups across groups and programs. This ensures a better fit and helps players get the most out of their experience!

    Midget Development Program
    • 2008 – 2011 AAA/AA players
    • Tuesdays 8:15 – 9:45pm, April 14 – June 23, Holiday Rinks
    • All ice at Holiday Rinks
    • 11 Γ— 1.5 hour ice sessions (9 practices, 2 games) = 16.5 hours total ice
    • Access to Mark Zarbo Hockey IQ Video Database
    • Video lessons provided prior to each practice
    • Pixellot Analytics Video Account for each player
    • Game breakdowns (15 – 20 clips) via Pixellot based on skills/topics
    • Signing up for this program makes the entire family eligible for discounts on select Spring & Summer Programs!

⚠️ Player Eligibility: These sessions are not appropriate for players below a strong AAA/AA level. Players should have a solid skills foundation relative to others in their age group.

Why? Players get the most out of the Hockey IQ Program when they are at a top-to-average skill level within the group. If a player’s skills are behind, it becomes difficult for them to apply the IQ concepts being taught because they are primarily focused on keeping up. If your player is at a lower skill level for their age, we strongly recommend prioritizing foundational skill development. See our Spring/Summer Skill Sessions.

      •
⚠️ Why AAA level? PEP-style training assumes players already possess very strong foundational skills and experience in skill development. The purpose of this training is to challenge that foundation by engaging multiple skills (motor units) simultaneously. Players who do not possess this level of skill will not benefit from this style of training, as they may reinforce bad habits or struggle to perform the drills as intended. It is recommended that those players participate in our Spring & Summer Skill Sessions to strengthen their foundational skill base.

A beginner is defined as a player who has not yet proficient with basic skating skills of stops/starts, crossovers, tight turns, backward skating, basic puck control, and basic edge work. We assume all participants can perform these fundamental skills, as all practices and sessions are designed with this in mind.

⚠️ Battle Camp Eligibility: Players (2018 – 2020 birth years) should already possess a very strong foundation of skating and puck skills. Those who are not yet strong in basic skating skills such as stops and starts, crossovers, tight turns, puck control, and edge work will not benefit from this program. Why? The Defense Program assumes that all players attending already possess strong skating and skill foundations.
